I have eaten in most restaurants downtown, and one day decided to try Abruzzo. First impression was that is it a little too old style - decor was quite old fashioned. But over all nice and quiet. The food though makes up for short coming in the decor department. I can't say that they were as good as home made italian food, but came pretty darn close. I lived in Rome for five years growing up and the food at Allegro is of the same quality and in many cases better than the cuisine in Rome. The Cannelloni is the best I have ever had. The rack of lamb rates 10 out of 10. I just returned from two weeks in Italy and was disappointed in the quality of food in many of the local restaurants. We have been eating here for many years. The food is consistently good and the service friendly and efficient. The decor is friendly and and comfortable and the service personable . Parking, on the street, is usually available nearby and is free. Some dishes (ie full rack of lamb and some multi-course specials) cost over $25, but are good buys. Sunday special is a 3 course Roast Beef and Yorkshire (a small town in Northern Italy????} Pudding. Very good. Victor the Mtr'd, and one of the owners, is very Italian, and fun. I absolutely love this place. The food is quite good, the portion sizes are generous, the prices are right, and the service is always friendly. Speaking of portion sizes, I love their appetizers. They have some small appetizers which are priced relatively low which is wonderful. I don't want to spend 75% the cost of a meal for an appetizer so large that I'm not hungry for dinner any longer. Wish more places would offer appetizer portions like Amarosa. There is a wide selection available so you'd be hard pressed to find something you don't like. I'll be back. Read more
